Hawaiian Daze Gouache Painting for Apparel
The inspiration for this painting and textile design came from a trip I made to the New York Botanical Garden for the Georgia O’Keeffe - Visions of Hawaii exhibition some years back. I had that inspiration in mind and wanted to bring it to life with this Gouache painting. I loved the rich colors, vibrant florals and how this inspired O’Keeffe during her time in Hawaii. Here is the development of this design from original sketch to painting and finally textile design.

Hand sketched individual floral elements for this painting. Orchids of different varieties which were inspired by photographs I took at the exhibition.

Photo of the painting in progress including the color palette to the left and painted draft.

This is the digitized and color reduced version of my gouache painting. I achieved this by scanning it and reducing the colors in Adobe Photoshop.

Finished Gouache Painting - Hawaiian Daze.

This is the digitized and color reduced version of my gouache painting recolored with an ivory ground.

I wanted to fully adapt this painting to be a digital seamless repeat so I did that here for this mockup using Adobe Photoshop.
