Maracuyá Vine Textile Design
This design is another reference to a fruit of my childhood called the Maracuyá. The Maracuyá is also known as passion fruit. This fruit was very popular in Honduras growing on trees in friends back yards and would be made into juices to have with dinner. I adapted the illustration I made of this fruit into a seamless pattern for wallpaper. I constantly draw inspiration from the tropical elements that I grew up with in Honduras and try to interpret them into textile designs that will start a conversation and bring color into the home or other categories.
I included the design process of the individual elements of this design with the time lapse of the final stages of drawing below to show my process in detail. I wanted to experiment with my linework style as well as shading on Procreate. If you scroll past the illustration time lapse you can see the final artwork recolored with a few ground color options and the sketches of how I got to the final design.
Finished repeating pattern that I created in Adobe Photoshop.
I started this illustration by doing a loose sketch of the hanging fruit to get a sense of the proportions and layout.
My second step in the process of this illustration was to create solid colored linework with the final illustrated outline.
Finished illustration with an olive color ground for contrast.
